Maestro by idatalink set up

Post by leo.berglf »

I recently completed the installation of the idatalink Maestro w/Kenwood to integrate my 2017 SS with Android Auto.

Crutchfield let me down in a few of ways, even if the work itself wasn't that difficult. While the AM/FM antenna adaptor was suggested, it was left out that an adapter was necessary to keep the OEM XM antenna connection. Not only do they not sell the adapter, but they also failed to indicate that it is necessary to keep the OEM GPS antenna in working order (Amazon does). They promised to include the MIC-1 to connect the original microphone, but they were unaware that Chevys couldn't use that particular model. As a result, I had to return it and replace it with a Kenwood microphone. Thankfully, it's out of sight and appears to function well according to some recent phone calls made from the car.

The RR2 maestro module's steering wheel controls can no longer function automatically; instead, they must be set via the APX website. They also need to program the buttons on the dashboard, which is called a keyboard. A real pain, however you can print a "wallet card" that shows your selected character. Well, I'm already seated at it, so there's no need in installing the Kenwood handheld remote. I don't see the need in having anything else to remember. It seems like most of the features I need are already on the remote; so, I intend to include it into the dash if I return to it. At the moment, I do not feel like exposing that tangle of cables or opening that bag of worms.

Is it, in the end, money well spent? The amount of AA or CP you desire determines that. I felt it was worthwhile. This is less than what I paid to make my 2014 Harley-Davidson do the same function.

I was hoping you may provide the Amazon adapter's URL.

I am still waiting to hear whether Alpine or Pioneer will be participating in the direct fit arena.
