Issue with mmi3g high-optic fiber cables

Post by elenadt »

Excuse me, but my 2014 A5 Sportback mmi3g high isn't working properly.

The screen and controls work for the first 10 to 20 seconds after turning on the vehicle, but then the Audi just freezes. The music continues to play, but it doesn't move. To reset the system, I press the three buttons on the gear knob, and then it freezes again. Sometimes the system restarts itself, and other times it just turns off.

It arrived a few days after I replaced the cabin filter, so I'm not sure if I made a mistake there.

I was hoping you could tell me what that is.

It appears that one of the MOST bus modules is malfunctioning based on the behavior. First, use a female MOST loop connection to bypass the module(s) located below the left trim panel in the rear cargo area. The male connector is already attached to the module. The radio and amplifier modules might be located there, depending on the equipment.

Hello there, I was hoping that the female/male loop would work, but it didn't. I also attempted the same thing with the module located on the trunk's back left side, but to no avail.

Taking the device off of the panel and swapping out the MOST fiber connector with the male MOST fiber loop by-pass connector is the next step. In doing so, the primary unit is separated from the vehicle's MOST fiber loop. In the event that this problem continues (i.e., the system turns off after 10–20 seconds), it is probable that the main unit is defective and requires replacement.

Snap a photo of the label on the right side of the vehicle that has the VAG component number; it should begin with "8R1 035".

Oh, I see. The male loop is no different.

Sure, your MMI3G is a Basic (BNav) model. It's not often that you see face-lift models with this module, although I did see one in late 2016. Even if the BNav main unit's HDD were to fail, this wouldn't be an issue because it doesn't have any mass storage. Isolating the system from the MOST fiber bus should not cause it to shut down; in such a case, you should probably replace the main unit. Get a cheap, functional replacement and install any necessary software updates. Hope everything works out.

Could a problem with an aftermarket screen have been the cause? After the issue arose, I had the original screen replaced, but it made no difference.

Your question is unclear to me. Is this referring to the 8T0919604B 6.5-inch screen in the instrument cluster, or to a different model with a greater resolution in the High/Plus trim levels? In my experience, a malfunctioning screen should not cause the system to shut down in the manner you describe; instead, it should either work or emit a fault code.
