Engine hesitation

My 1991 300e 4matic is experiencing a problem with the m103 sputtering and then turning off when I accelerate. I have driven less than a mile from the house on three separate occasions. After the first five to ten minutes, the engine starts to sputter and shut off, even though the gearbox shifts smoothly. Just give me a few minutes with the engine off, and I can "limp" home. Over the weekend, I will clean the throttle body and replace the rubber boot that sits beneath it. I'm rooting for this to be useful.

Those three fuel filters sound similar. Since it starts out running well, I don't think it's an air leak.

I failed to give the filters much consideration... You can easily swap them out. Sure, I can give that a go. The advice is greatly appreciated.

With our W124, we experienced identical symptoms. As it turned out, the distributor had become wet. At the point where the cap attaches to the block, an o-ring ought to be present at its base. (The o-ring was missing from both of our W124s.) This should be useful.
