What it's like to upgrade Bose audio
I've had my '98 for five years, and the most annoying thing about it is the outdated sound system. You can get SiriusXM and Bluetooth in my other vehicle. I used to be worried that getting a new audio might lower the car's resale value, but now I don't really care.
Have you have any stories to tell? Thank you!

Purchased from Crutchfield, as was the custom-made wiring harness. Everything was ready to go. Disconnect all cables. I also unhooked the CD player's wiring harness from the trunk of the vehicle. The new radio is equipped with CD, USB, and other features.
Radiator, electrical harness, and everything else cost less than $250.
No rewiring allowed; use the original speakers. Just to clarify, the R129 wiring harness that was custom-made by Crutchfield was used; no wires were removed. Easy as pie. It probably took no more than fifteen minutes to switch out. To get the radio to go back into its bracket, I need to remove the climate control and have access to the backside. Then I can get the wiring beneath it. The installation of the radio bracket also did not require any wood trimming.

Although they are more costly than ordinary aftermarket options, modern stereos with a retro design are available from manufacturers like Blaupunkt and Pioneer.
Becker can make adjustments to the original unit if you like.

Some Becker headunits have Bluetooth modules that attach to the CD changer connector on the rear.
