BMW X5 Xdrive40E Oil Pan 2018

Post by audrey.wangfz »

Almost two years ago, I purchased it with 57,000 miles. Now, because I don't have to go far every day, it has 77,000. A LOT of issues have arisen with it. One of the four batteries (yes, it has four) in the vehicle died a month after I bought it used from a respectable BMW store. I had to jump start it just to get it to BMW since it was completely dead. They divided the cost with me, which was probably around $700 for my part, because I recently bought it. It was a "smaller" battery that worked with a number of different electrical parts. We had to replace the turbo lines after about a year since they went out. Approximately $3,500 was not covered by my extended warranty, even if the turbo was. The "lines" were not. Afterwards, I went to a Midas for an oil change approximately eleven months ago, which was a HUGE mistake. A small leak developed in the vehicle, but it was not serious. They told it needed a new plug (time cert or something) because they stripped the old one. I took it to BMW, and they fixed it. I turned down the service because the oil leak wasn't serious and kept going because I was already broke from fixing it. A month ago, I took it to a reliable BMW repair in my neighborhood to get the oil changed and brake flushed. I was also informed that the plug had been pulled. Upon receiving the terrible news, they contacted to purchase a replacement. The oil pan has a tiny break in it, and the plug is in one of its corners. The time and money needed to rectify this was completely unknown to me. Either Midas or this rookie BMW mechanic could have done it long ago. No more letting strangers interfere with my BMW; I snatched it up and brought it in to BMW. Due to the extremely labor-intensive nature of replacing this part, the total cost of the job will be $6350. The price is right! As a matter of fact, the $6350 is a discounted rate that BMW offered me after I submitted two other quotations. Repairing this oil pan will cost you at least $10,000. It will be done appropriately; the part is being ordered from Germany and is still at BMW. I still owe roughly $17,500 on my loan, and the worst part is that I only received bids of about $11,000 when I tried to sell it. After that, the High Voltage battery, which is warrantied by BMW, will be the next major thing. At 80,000 and 100,000, respectively, are some components. Listen up, folks: this battery fix is going to cost you fifteen grand. You really need a ton of cash to get an old car like this. The BMW extended warranty I purchased hasn't been very helpful either.

Which extended warranty plan did you choose? It's odd that it doesn't cover the other things you named, but I'm assuming it doesn't cover the oil pan because of damage and 12V batteries because they are worn items. Is it possible to have the oil pan damage covered by your auto insurance? Are you implying that it's time to replace the HV battery or are you simply making plans for the future? Was the car originally deemed unfit for a CPO due to its high mileage?

Even though it's a cool car, the X540e is an early BMW PHEV, so there are two separate powertrains to keep track of. That engine's timing chain and guides are infamous for breaking down, so be careful with them. If it doesn't work, your car is dead and gone for good.

Since BMW won't cover it beyond the 50,000 they provide, I bought an extended warranty from another firm for $6000. The automobile has about two years' worth of mileage on it; when I acquired it, it had 57,000 miles. I recouped $4,000 last year, which they put toward the principal of the car—which was a good thing because I had already invested nearly $11,000 in it after replacing the shattered oil pan—because I was frustrated with the warranty's lack of coverage. Since I had taken it to both Midas and that second mechanic for oil changes, they said the extended warranty probably wouldn't have covered the cracked pan anyhow. This was because there was no way to determine who overcranked the plug and caused the crack. Although the HV battery has not yet died, it did begin behaving up. BMW put it through a battery of tests last week, but they still can't get the code to appear again. I reside in Arizona, so they mentioned it may be the battery overheating, but I'm still worried. Because of the oil spill, the bids have been so low, and I'm stuck trying to sell it.

I don't get what you mean by the high voltage battery acting up.
