New brake pads for the rear...

Post by max.petrovrm »

Would it be necessary to reset anything if I replace the rear pads before the sensor tells me to? I'm hoping to change them soon, as they may last for another month or two, but that's when the hot weather sets in. By the way, this is not a M class; it has an internal shoe style E brake.

Before removing the rear brake pads, make sure the electronic parking brake is retracted.

I don't need it because mine has a brake shoe style inside the rotor. I appreciate your feedback, though.

The rear brake service indicator must be reset using a scan tool. As a result, your iDrive will display a new "generic" mileage countdown.

Changing the wear indication on the inner pad isn't strictly necessary unless it hasn't triggered yet. Nonetheless, I believe it would be extremely irresponsible not to. The component is inexpensive, and the previous one will have a higher failure rate when the brake pads are replaced.
