Excuse me,
My 124.030 300E 89 model needs a new rear flexible disc.
It appears from the technical documentation that in order to remove the flex disc, I need to loosen a nut on the prop shaft close to the intermediate bearing, then slide the back portion forward. Is this correct? Which of the two open-end spanners—41 or 46 mm—is required to turn the nut? I don't happen to own either of those. Is it necessary to disassemble it in order to inspect it before I go and get a wrench?
Thanks in advance for any guidance you might provide.

Sure thing. I believe the 46mm is what you're looking for. We use a big one for the back and a tiny one up front; the smaller one is for the 4Matic front shaft.
In this case, a big adjustable wrench (shifter) might be useful. Take a look at the torque setting; I believe it's 40Nm. Vibration problems will occur if you make it too tight. When you take the flex disc off, make sure the little spigot bush at the back of the shaft isn't severely worn, too.

Re: Disc replacement in the back
I appreciate the information and guidance. To get the torque settings just right, I was wondering if there was a crows foot available in 46mm. Working on the 300e, which is completely rust-free in Australia (home), is fantastic after spending ten years in the rust belt area of Canada. How often will the spigot bush be used? I didn't consider that; the autos have done 217k kilometers.
