Break Light for the R230
The "high mount stop light" is installed in the trunk lid. In addition to letting water in, a cracked one detracts from the otherwise flawless appearance of the vehicle, thus it's best to get a new one if yours is cracked. I bought three replacements (!!!) when mine cracked since I am a crazy car parts hoarder. I am offering a genuine MBZ component that I purchased for $175 to any Benzworld member for $125. Shipping is free nationwide. Although I used many band-aids on my hands for a week after replacing mine, it's not too tough.

A brand new replacement one is available for about $30 on eBay. It looks exactly the same from the outside. There are several OEM options available for less than $40 that are likely recovered from damaged vehicles.
I was able to exchange in under half an hour without using any bandaids.

Re: Break Light for the R230
Buying an aftermarket one from China is risky since, after a month, part of the LEDs can stop functioning. Rest assured, I did not mount a brake light—of Chinese origin—on the trunk lid of my SL600. Genuine parts are being sold for a purpose. I too think it is complete bullshit, and I want to see a 30-minute swapout. Come on over here and get the one I got for $175 if you're interested in buying it from me for $30. Accompany your sister

Using an authentic OEM part does not ensure that it will be problem-free. Can you tell me where MB gets this part? Regarding the half an hour, I won't judge your mechanic skills because I don't know what you have. Regarding your remark about my sister, I get the impression that you are not a gentleman and may benefit from visiting a pornographic website.

Re: Break Light for the R230
Some R230 owners are quite traditionalist and would never consider installing Chinese lights on their vehicle, while others have a different opinion. Not a problem. Actually, it's produced in Hungary. I made this discussion because I was hoping someone else might be interested in purchasing this light from me for less than the suggested RETAI price. Now I'm thinking I'll simply keep it in the garage. Thank you all

If what I've read about AliExpress ones is true, they don't fit, then I'd definitely recommend the OEM Benz version.

The Chinese company Applianpar Direct, which I purchased from Amazon, must have a presence in the United States because my order arrived in just two days. I'm in for $22. I can still succeed even if some of my attempts fail. From a safety standpoint, I believe it is somewhat brighter. The idea that China is constantly producing low-quality goods is incorrect. As a global reseller, I have bought thousands of power tools from Chinese firms. Their quality is on par with that of Japan and Germany, and their prices are far more reasonable because of their cheap labor. The manufacturers we worked with also prioritized the well-being of their employees.

I agree that it's crucial for the seal to be snug against the lid to prevent water infiltration and subsequent problems with the lid latch. Personally, I prefer to use the original components whenever possible, but that's just me. I also agree that you can find cheaper alternatives to many parts, but not all of them.
