Locating a detachable connection

Post by jaydengutierrezkt »

You may find more information about my recent electrical troubles in the "Misfire Mystery" thread.

This morning as I was digging under the car, I saw this hanging free. Located adjacent to the sump, this gasket was replaced together with the rocker and valley gaskets.

It appears to be a grounding cable; is this typical? Please tell me where it should go and from what source if that is so.

Much obliged.

Not a cable at all; it seems more like a hose. Looking at the front axle breather pipe, it's likely that it is.

I will return to this later, but in the meanwhile, is it acceptable as is or does it need to be reinserted into the engine compartment? Is there a certain place for it, or would it be possible to just reattach it if, for example, that clip were to break? Thank you!

I appreciate your quick response. A metal eyelet is visible between my fingers; a black cable extends from its left edge to an unknown location; the quality of the photograph is lacking, my apologies.

There are a lot of them, and this one still resembles the breather. Attached to the front axle, gearbox, or transfer case with a banjo bolt, it features a metal end.

When you're wading, you may seal the axles, gearbox, and transfer case with the breather to keep water out. Without the breather, the seals would be blown due to the pressure caused by the heat within the components. All of the breather hoses are looped around at the top of the bulkhead to prevent water from entering them.

Fantastic, I am eternally grateful; I will research that immediately and reapply.

In this evaluation, I concur with @ellie.hernandezej. It appears to be a fitting for a banjo.
