Has anyone managed to increase the top speed restriction on OCTA models and 20" spec V8s to 22"?

Post by petracolemanmu »

Has anybody ever utilized a GAP tool or something similar to get the top speed back to what it would have been with a 22" specification after purchasing or ordering a Defender that would have had a greater top speed?

According to what I've heard from GAP, the programming may go beyond CCF files—maybe even into the actual ECU—which is certainly not something that most people would be interested in as a change item.

When specified with 20" wheels, the V8 can reach 119 mph, but with 22" wheels, it can reach 149 mph.
With the octa, you have three steps:
The factory configuration options start at 155 for 22" all season tires and go down for each 20" option.

I am considering both new and used V8 130s, and I am willing to go over 119 mph in one with a roof tent and all of my belongings, disregarding the "no dynamic loads allowed" nonsense. The most enter the US market with a 22-inch diameter, so that's not a problem. However, if you're placing an order and prefer a different diameter, this presents a challenge...

My friend just ordered a set of 20" rims with AT tires using the VIN from a dealer demo gravel-spec Octa. It went unnoticed.

The car becomes less stable at higher speeds due to the 20" rims' larger sidewall profile and the accompanying AT tires' lower speed rating, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the limit. The vehicle's suspension should be set up according to the rolling stock it is designed to carry, as far as I'm concerned. All of that is predetermined.

The Defender forum is a good place to find more detailed responses to your questions. Here is L405 for you. If you wait long enough, a mod will probably see and remove the topic.

How awful. Actually, I was thinking it belonged in the defensive area. Thx

I'm curious about the possibility of altering it. Disinterested in delving into the reasoning behind their specifications.

I understand well why that is the case, however because most people don't use factory tires, the speed rating of the tires they bought has no bearing on how safely the car can manage high speeds.

Using significantly bigger sidewall tires, for instance, allows Dakar vehicles to go considerably quicker.

Someone with an RR may also possess a Defender, I suppose.

A "real Land Rover diagnostics tool" seems to be what I'm in need of.
