If you buy a Kicker, it will reset the fault but won't tell you what it was, thus the problem will keep coming back. Invest in a cable similar to this one.

(though you might have to swap out the USB adapter that came with it for one that has the FTDI chipset) and then pair it with the free EASUnlock program.
