Help with Coolant Air Bleed from GEMS 4.0

Post by ethanromerotm »

Hello everyone,

I get that this is a "dead horse" topic, but please, I really need some assistance and apologies in advance.

My system's radiator and thermostat, along with all of the hoses, were recently replaced. Two gallons of coolant have been used up, and the system is now "topped off."

Since the bleeder nipple is pushing coolant and the line is fresh, there is no obstruction, I followed RichardG's approach and squeezed the top hose until it did. I continue to detect gurgling when I apply the identical procedure on the expansion tank (press, seal the top hole, and then release). Say I do it twenty times in a row, and the level remains the same.

My next move is unclear. Please don't presume I can do anything without clear directions (such as whether to leave the expansion cap on or remove it, for example). This procedure is challenging for me for some reason.

Thank you so much for your support

When the gurgling sound ceases, continue doing the same thing. Basically, when you squeeze the hose, air or coolant can escape through the bleed hole in the reservoir's neck. Then, when you plug the hole and let go of the hose, the coolant is sucked out of the reservoir. The air then moves up the radiator until it reaches the top, where it can be released through the bleed hose.

Even if GEMS is apparently easier than Thor, it will still take some time if the system has been emptied entirely. For an easier bleeding out, you might try running the engine for a few minutes without the cap to redirect the airflow.

Praise be to you all. A little more "squeezing" and waiting for it to reach temperature took care of it. When set to HI, it radiates heat, the temperature gauge remains stationary in the center, and the upper hose is hot to the touch everywhere. The level decreased little, perhaps 2 inches, so I will wait for it to cool before adding more if necessary.
