Strange fuel gauge issue with P38

Post by lilatl »

As of 1998, P38 had 4.6 million There seems to be an intermittent fuel gauge malfunction with the LHD. The gauge occasionally goes to zero before recovering a minute or two later. Rather common, albeit haphazard. It seems like a sensor temporarily disconnects and then reconnects automatically. Can you think of anything?

If I had to guess, I'd say the sender is in trouble, but that's just speculation. After retightening the grounding point under the front passenger kick panel, my wacky gauge problems disappeared. As far as I remember, it was a 10mm socket.

It's much easier to implement idea 2 than recommendation 1. When you need to change the gasoline sender, you have to change the tank's fuel pump assembly.
