B9 servicing for manual transmissions

Post by fatimafg »

This is my first Quattro vehicle (I've owned VWs before), and I'm trying to figure out how to service the transmission, AWD clutch, and rear differential because I recently acquired a manual B9 A4 with 100,000 miles on the odometer. However, I'm having trouble finding information about the right fluid to use, and I'm not sure if these services are really necessary. Does it make sense to service the transmission as well as the differential and AWD system, given how nicely the car drives? I don't want to waste $60/liter on fluid if it isn't absolutely essential...

There is a significant price difference between a new or refurbished gearbox and a transmission service. Second, you should know that the torque converter is likely to remain clogged with unclean fluid if you do not have the right equipment to flush the gearbox. Hiring a competent company will ensure a thorough job, since they will also inspect the gearbox for any problems.
