couldn't reinstall the rear differential

Revamping a 2007 335i extensively. I have taken the center shaft off, dropped the axles, and removed the rear diff, but I am unable to reinstall it. I've tried everything, including using new Powerflex purpole bushings in each of the three spots and a loosely bolted rear, but the front bolts still won't line up with the diff's threaded holes.
I have experimented with using a floor jack, a trans jack, two people, and on my own.
I'm prepared to take it to a repair shop now. Can you tell me the key?

order of installation:

Using the workshop jack and the specific tool (33 4 420), install the rear axle final drive.
Put in the screws (1) but loosen them not yet.
Put the screw in from the back and replace the nut (2) without tightening.
Come down the jack in the workshop.
Secure the fasteners.
Securing torque: 33 x 17 x 1AZ.
Secure the nut (2).
Securing torque: 33 x 17 x 1AZ.

Did you adjust the differential bushings or anything else on the subframe when you removed the differential? Unfortunately, on my E39, I had the differential bushings pushed inward toward the subframe center by accident, which made it not fit. After adjusting those, the differential slid in just enough for me to seat it in place. The bolts that secure the differential also need to be installed in a certain sequence, but I think Doug already addressed that in his post.

Yes, I did indeed remove the old bushings and replace them with new ones. The instructions were followed correctly when installing the replacements.

To put my differential into the subframe, I had to twist it in, if my memory serves me right. With one bolt in the rear right differential mount bolt while standing on the driveshaft's location, I proceeded to slowly twist the differential counter clockwise to obtain the rear left bolt, and finally the front bolt. I found that to be the key; perhaps it will work for you as well. I had to twist it into place and use a pry bar for extra leverage because jacking it up straight into the subframe didn't work for some reason.

I replaced the diff pinion bearings and not the bushes on my 320i e93 using this identical method.
