According to fuelly, the lowest mileage that people are getting out of their GL is 15mpg.

My friend claims to consistently get 50mpg on the highway and 30mpg or more in the city while driving the CDI. To be fair, I think he's basing it on the car's specs.
Regarding 54, I took the reading at the pump. I am very sure of it. It totally caught me off guard, and I was absolutely floored. Nighttime highway driving at a slightly reduced speed. The number of fillups between Jacksonville and Denver was low, but what little there were were probably just as good, if not better.
