Hidden battery recall for the P550e?

Post by jaydengutierrezkt »

Just wondering if anybody else received this from JLR or a dealer.

While I was out of town last week, my JLR dealer called to schedule maintenance. I was taken aback, so I gave them another call. The receptionist gave me a general answer, but I was able to speak with the head of the service department in the end. The short version is that they need me to bring in the car so that they can remove the hybrid battery, open it, and replace certain internal components. It has been scheduled for July because I will be away for an extended period of time. While that was going on, they were working at a fast pace and even had the necessary parts on hand to fix it.

The service adviser reassures me that the car is safe to drive for the time being, and that switching to gas mode is the worst that can happen. He denied that there was any connection between this and the failure of the DC-DC converter when I queried him about it. Strangely, JLR has not contacted me on this suggested repair. My car is in good running condition and has approximately 16,000 miles on the odometer, so I'm not sure I want to get it opened up. However, the service advisor insists that it is required and that everything will be OK thereafter.

Does this mean it's unique to YOUR Rover? I mean, come on, there would be more of an incentive than simply getting you to do open battery surgery if that were the standard model for everyone.

Then again, you never know! It seems janky.

I'm attempting to ascertain that. If this is an isolated incident, then who is the one starting it?

Odd, could you kindly share the repair invoice details with us? We'd appreciate it if you could describe the work done and provide us with the part numbers. Neither JLR nor the service department at my dealership have contacted me regarding the battery problems.

It is quite strange, indeed. Due of my impending month-long absence, I have not yet scheduled the job. Since JLR has not communicated with me and my app indicates that my vehicle is in good health, I would like to know how the dealer received the request to fix it. To be honest, I'm confused and nervous.

I'm also intrigued. I haven't dealt with my car yet. Your car's year is 2026; I own a 2026.
