More trustworthy?
If you ask the experts, would you trust the RVR or the Eclipse Cross more? Would like to purchase one of these items. I am grateful.

Re: More trustworthy?
In comparison to the 1.5L turbo in the Cross, the 2.4L in the RVR is the superior engine. A higher-grade RVR is also available for purchase if you can afford a Cross. However, the RVR is an inadequately constructed vehicle. Originally, I had an Outlander, but I reduced to the RVR because I thought it would be more manageable. In certain countries, it's called Outlander Sport, right? That being said, it is in no way a pared-down Outlander! The car is of a lower class and costs less. Conversely, a Cross is an excessively priced sports vehicle. Look at the differences between the engines (2.4 vs. 1.5), gearbox designs, etc. It has nothing to do with the capacitive touchscreen or the number of memory settings for the driver's seat. The official estimates of the fuel consumption of both vehicles are suspect. You cannot drive faster than 70 to 80 km/h on mixed country roads, where our RVR achieves 7.5L/100km. Despite the RVR's small weight, the ride is much less comfortable than that of an Outlander. The most affordable model is the Outlander, so get one if you can. It will be done by an RVR SE if not. No doubt, though, that this is all relative.

I appreciate your detailed response. Thanks a tonne! My car, a Mirage G4, is also quite inexpensive, but I absolutely adore it and it has served me well. Additionally, a Sport with the 2.4 is not easy to come by in the US. Nearly all of them have 2.0.

Re: More trustworthy?
Thank you very much! Even though RVRs aren't as well-made as Outlanders, that doesn't make them poor, and that was an objective response. It's only 2.5 years old, but for the time being, I'm satisfied. I felt compelled to bring it up before, but the comparison was based on a 6V, 3.0L Outlander, which is no longer manufactured. You won't be let down by the driving experience in an RVR or Outlander Sport, especially since you already own a Mirage. I also lean toward what you call "normally aspirated" engines. Additionally, I drive a 2.0L ES RVR. Just like DJ said, the CVT might cause some problems. There is no option for a different gearbox on this model, unfortunately.

They are almost identical in terms of reliability.
Poor servicing or an incorrect timetable has caused known CVT faults in the RVR, ASX, and Outlander sports.
The oil consumption of Eclipse Cross models prior to 2021 is problematic.
Eclipse cross features state-of-the-art technology.
You can save money by buying ASX.

Re: More trustworthy?
Much obliged. I did a lot of research online and have been a lurker on this site for a time. Something about the turbo and the oil usage worries me. Before we sold it, my wife's 2014 Chevrolet Equinox was consuming over 2 litres of gas every week. I refuse to go through that ordeal again.
Problems with oil consumption after the 2022 Eclipse Cross have also been reported. Perhaps it's simply a result of the turbo's increased pressures? The simplicity of normally aspirated engines has always appealed to me. However, I have to confess that during my test drive, the Cross felt more responsive.

As part of the manufacturing process for the Series 2 Eclipse cross, the engine defect that enabled oil consumption was corrected. Additionally, the new components were used to redesign the engines for the first series.
As far as I am aware, the later eclipse cross does not cause any problems with oil use.
