Examining a 2013 328i Sulev with a slight rattle at the beginning
Looking at a 328i with 112,000 miles is like saying this. Moved to Texas from California. It appears that the vehicle, which had a clean CARFAX report, was sold to the dealer who had previously sent it to auction earlier this year. At 85,000 miles, the dealer certified that the water pump was done. After my test drive, I told him to start the car in ten minutes or else we would have to stop talking about it, even though it drove smoothly and felt great overall. There was a brief rattling sound, lasting no more than five seconds, but bear in mind that it restarts warmly. The owner gave it a quick rev and then walked away. I wanted to see if you thought it was serious enough to walk away from, because I really like the options and everything, and the price isn't bad. The chain itself, old oil, vamos, tensioner, guides, and the price difference to fix each are pretty drastic, according to reading on forums and Google Reddit etc. Driving it is almost effortless, and I still enjoy it. In contrast to the n52, it did contain a stored code for p0143 on the low catalyst sensor for the radiator. Am a bit hazy on the details. On the other hand, the test drive is flawless. What are your thoughts on this?

On that particular vehicle, I think the P0143 code indicates a problem with the intake variable timing camshaft control. The possibility of that being translated into VANOS is very real. Is RECALL 23V-707: REPLACE VANOS ADJUSTMENT UNIT SCREWS something that has been undertaken?
To find out if this and any other open recalls are associated with your BMW, you can contact a local dealer and ask them to run the full VIN.

Since I was relying on my memory, I apologize if my explanation was incorrect; I just looked this up while searching.
Instead of P0143, it should be P143E (Direct Ozone Reduction Catalyst Temperature Sensor Gradient Too Low). 1 and 2
Along with the rattle that comes with a warm restart, this is also happening. Following the test drive, which ended ten minutes later. The car handles well, however

N51 motor?
The part may be available as a standalone unit or as part of a more costly sub-assembly; I am unsure of the latter. From what I can tell, it's more likely the latter, though aftermarket parts vendors may remove the sensor. I have no idea.Your BMW's engine system relies on the EAC Sensor. An acronym for "environmental active catalyst," its primary use is to track the catalytic converter's performance. This sensor communicates with the engine control unit (ECU) by measuring the concentration of pollutants in the exhaust gases.
The EAC Sensor ensures that your BMW satisfies emission regulations by continuously monitoring the emissions. An alert light will illuminate on your dashboard to let you know that the catalytic converter or emissions levels have been compromised, suggesting that you should have the vehicle inspected more thoroughly and possibly repaired.
My gut tells me this problem would lead to a failure in your region's Vehicle Inspections and/or Emissions Inspections, but I can't say for sure.
Unless the catalytic converter is internally malfunctioning, it doesn't appear to be related to startup noise.

You should be fine with it being a SULEV N51 since it was originally a 328i from California.

Embmissions are still in my county, which is a shame because most of Texas counties got rid of them. It was only recently that the guy sticker, which is from March of this year, went by.

Much obliged. The rattle is more of a worry to me than the sensor.
