Drivetrain fluid for the 2009 Sportage electrical system. In addition to any other "just bought it" recommendations.

Post by luna.wangnr »

Hello there. My 2009 Sportage is in excellent condition and has only 110k miles. Because I don't have any records of its maintenance, the first things I need to do are change the oil and check the timing belt (among other belts). I'm also having trouble with the power steering, which makes a little screeching sound when the car is cold and starts for a few seconds before cutting out. After about two or three turns of the wheel, the steering becomes very heavy for that one turn before going away. It appears that the original power steering fluid is not only discontinued but also rubbish, according to my investigation. Also, I'm aware that you can (and really should) use ATF fluid to clean it out and replace it. Although I've read that any Dexron 3 ATF should work, I was hoping to get some feedback before I buy the Valvoline Maxlife ATF. Is there anything else that needs fixing with this car right away?
EDIT: just so you know, this is the automated tranny type with four cylinders.
Thank you.

Also, make sure the transfer case and rear differential fluids are in good working order, and inspect and refill the brake fluid as necessary. Refill and drain just for ATF.

If there are no maintenance records, I would probably change all of the fluids. Make sure to inspect the air filters, tire age, brakes, and other essential components. The guidebook has an exhaustive list of everything that has to be checked. Have a good time in the automobile.
