Fuel Pump with Noise

Good day,
The mileage on my 2000 R1100S is not too high at 52,000 kilometers, so it has been sitting for a while. I took it for a spin over the weekend after finally getting everything back together. A very audible whining sound is emanating from the fuel pump. that used to do that often, but now it does it every so often. Maybe there's air in there, but I was hoping it will go away eventually. Now I'm not so sure. It lets out short, sharp whimpers before settling down. It's rather audible. While you're on the ride, it will do this around every five minutes. Although I did not replace any lines, I did repair the fuel filter while everything was disassembled. Am I missing anything? I want to disassemble it and examine it closely for any signs of trouble. I'm hesitant to change the pump because I've heard these are really sturdy.

A person who complains or whines is trying to warn you that something is wrong. Pump failure is possible; deterioration of hoses, particularly "U" lines, is a possibility; the intake filter sock can be "scrunched" or obstructed by earlier debris; and last but not least, the pressure regulator should not be excluded.

The fuel pump may have been varnished with old gas if it remained idle for an extended period of time (years?). Alternately, you may replace the pump or try flushing a couple tanks using Techron fuel system cleaning.
