I was hoping someone could tell me which OBD scanners and coders aren't Ista but can still do the valvetronic run-in procedure. Much obliged.

It appears that the Foxwell NT809 can handle it, with both wired and Bluetooth options to choose from.

Likely some cheaper options, as well as BMW software that is exclusive to Foxwell models.
The 809 supports software from any manufacturer, which is great news if your cars aren't BMWs, as I indicated in the other thread.

Thanks for documenting the navigation system's inner workings down to the valvetronic functions; it's precisely what I was hoping for. Spot on for my requirements. I noticed that you've circled two options in the Foxwell menu in the third to last picture; do you happen to know what they are? Are the LIMIT POSITION ADAPTATION and the BMW ISTA "run-in" procedure interchangeable? 450 cycles first, then 50 cycles, as in the run-in demos on YouTube? By all appearances, that is the case. The second option on the menu is "start-up valvetronic"; I have no idea what it encompasses. Maybe it's a feature that lets you visually verify the valvetronic motor is operating through digital control? Regarding the ISTA menu and functions on the N55, I would like some clarification on the two functions and what they mean.

Finally, I did find out that in the event that I do not get my parts soon or in an emergency, it is possible to manually adjust the VT motor/e-shaft to its maximum position. In this way, the engine can at least run, even without the parts. Just make sure to disconnect the VT motor wiring harness. To do it, you must drill. there is a tiny opening in the VT motor gasket that allows you to insert the 4mm allen key into the manual adjustment screw. However, exercise extreme caution to avoid plastic shavings getting into the engine, and most importantly, do not let the adjustment screw snap back while under tension while attempting to reach its maximum position, as this could result in damage. Once it reaches its maximum position, all tension is released because it will remain in that position on the e-shaft flats. Will this be the way it runs? Yes. Will it perform at its best? No. The "fix" will only be in place temporarily until the vehicle can be repaired, and codes will be generated accordingly.

I can't say for sure because I didn't test the features on my car.
However, I think the second circled function, start up valvetronic, processes the entire procedure (many cycles) and is used for installing new parts.
As opposed to the second, which simply finds the limits at either end, the first, called limit position adaptation, is used for reinstalling existing equipment.

While this video shows a different scanner, it runs the complete run-in procedure using a function that shares the same name: start up valvetronic.

Additionally, I was unaware that there was a distinct and more involved process for installing new parts as opposed to reinstalling existing ones.

Is it possible to restore it to specification by simply performing the entire startup procedure on the current components? The handheld device can also detect errors and adjustment issues.
May not solve the problem (if it's mechanical wear and tear), but it could be worth a try if you obtain an ISTA or scanner beforehand.

My sole prior expertise was re-learning the limits and reinstalling the valvetronic motor on a N52 following a valve cover gasket replacement.
However, I believe the valvetronic system was designed differently for the N52/54 compared to the N20/55.
