Enhanced emissions logic for the 2017 Sorento SC095
I just purchased a 2017 Sorento 2.4L AWD, which is brand new to me. It has 120k miles and has a known problem with a faulty catalytic converter. I found a reasonably priced 50 state/EPA/non-CARB converter and swapped it out for the old one. Even without a cheater socket for the downstream O2, my new catalytic converter is able to remove the P0420 code here in Canada, where emissions testing are not required. I also installed brand new OEM fuel injectors in each of the four vehicles. I simply replaced all of the cylinders after boroscope inspections revealed poor spray patterns in a couple of them. As the intake was turned off, I examined the intake valves. There is some dirt on them, but it doesn't look anything like the pictures you see. It was probably just a little scale, about the thickness of a fingernail, so I skipped cleaning them.
From what I could tell, after those fixes, everything worked perfectly.
Even though the logic for the knock sensor was completed years ago, three other recalls were still outstanding. I had already taken care of them all. SC095 service campaign, otherwise known as; "Issue Description: In certain vehicles, there is a possibility of an overly negative pressure in the combustion chamber due to the simultaneous closing of the intake and exhaust valves. The catalyst could get contaminated with unburned oil droplets if this happens. This could lead to a rise in emissions.
Dealers will update the software calibration data for the Engine Management System (EMS) on the impacted vehicles and related test groups.
I needed that taken care of so I wouldn't hurt the new cat. But I've noticed that there's a lot of hesitancy or bucking in the first minute or two of cold starts (like when it's dark outside).Until it reaches closed loop, I'll assume. There is a perfect fuel trim (0+-5%). I didn't have enough time with the vehicle to determine whether this problem existed prior to the recall. The car runs smoothly at warm temperatures and idles more efficiently in cold and hot weather thanks to the new injectors. Recent complaints on Hyundai forums, however, were quite similar.
There is a thread about the 9C2 driveability note on Hyundai Forums, but I'm not yet experienced enough to post links.
I don't know how current the SC095 service campaign is, and I haven't discovered any information about Kias with the same issue, but it seems to be the same thing. Is this service campaign being executed by anyone else? Maybe Kia hasn't made it to the US yet, or maybe it's just available in Canada.

SC095? Okay. Several Sedonas from 2006 had faulty front springs and were part of that campaign.
I think you're referring to SC147, which is specific to the 2012–2014 (XMa) Sorento models equipped with 2.4L engines and does not apply to the 2017 Sorento.

I am inquiring about the possibility of a comparable campaign or recall for US vehicles bearing a different number, since I mentioned earlier that this might only apply to Canada at the moment. Entering my VIN causes the screenshot to appear. It is obvious that the numbering system used by Kia Canada and Kia US is different.

I conducted extensive research outside of the US documents, and I can confirm... For an unrelated reason in Canada, Kia repurposed campaign number SC095. Wonder why?
Here, SC340 (currently at rev4) is our equivalent document. For 2.4L Sorento engines (Optima and Sportage) from 2016 to 2020, it also addresses this matter.
They hadn't released new code for the 16-18 years prior to our original Rev 1 version, which is dated 7 Nov 2025.
The software for the 16–17 year Sorento is still in the works, according to our Rev 4 version, which is dated 5 March 2026.
Here, SC340 (currently at rev4) is our equivalent document. For 2.4L Sorento engines (Optima and Sportage) from 2016 to 2020, it also addresses this matter.

Impressive data; I'm grateful. I'd be surprised if Kia USA slowed down the rollout because of all the problems Hyundai and maybe Kia Canada had with this software.
